NATO to continue supporting democratic transition in Kyrgyzstan

BRUSSELS. March 1. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ NATO intends to continue to render support to democratic reforms in Kyrgyzstan. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said it following results of a meeting with Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva which was held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on Monday, February 28.

"The peaceful process that we see in Kyrgyzstan gives us the chance to find new ways to broaden our practical cooperation. NATO has a long expertise in supporting partners with defense and security sector reform and we stand ready to assist in line with Kyrgyzstan's own priorities," the Secretary General said.

Rasmussen stressed that Partnership for Peace offers a solid foundation to further develop cooperation with NATO. He also thanked President Otunbayeva for Kyrgyzstan's political and practical support to the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. Kyrgyzstan has been a member of Partnership for Peace since 1994.
