ASTANA. January 30. KAZINFORM A meeting of President of Kazakhstan with the heads of law-enforcement agencies on combating crime and corruption, drug trafficking and the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, began with a minute of silence in remembrance of those killed in the plane crash near Almaty.

Nursultan Nazarbayev declared January 31 a day of mourning.

"Yesterday a plane flying from Kokshetau crashed near Almaty city. 20 of our citizens were killed. I expressed my condolences on this tragic incident. A special commission, which is investigating the incident, will provide support to the families and friends of the victims of our citizens. Let's hold a moment of silence in remembrance of the dead," the President said, opening the meeting.
