Nazarbayev launches 'Uzen-state border with Turkmenistan' railway line

ASTANA. December 9. KAZINFORM /Damir Baimanov/ President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev opened "Uzen - state border with Turkmenistan" railway line during the nationwide telebridge on Friday.

The President said that the Turkmen and Iranian sections of the railroad would be finished in the first quarter of the next year.

"Uzen - state border with Turkmenistan" is the road to the Persian Gulf. This is our window, cut through by independent Kazakhstan, to the seaports of the world", the President said.

The project will directly link Kazakhstan and the central regions of Russia through Turkmenistan to Iran, the Persian Gulf, South and Southeast Asia. The volume of traffic only in the first year of operation will be up to nine million tons. Implementation of the project will give new impetus to economic development of western Kazakhstan.
