Nearly 30mln ha of land in Kazakhstan prone to erosion
In Kazakhstan, five million hectares of land are prone to water erosion, and 24 million hectares are susceptible to wind erosion, according to Murat Temirhzanov, Chairman of the Land Resources Management Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Speaking at a briefing in the Central Communications Office, Murat Temirzhanov emphasized that a little over 29 million hectares of land are affected by degradation and other negative processes.
“Five million hectares are prone to water erosion and 24 million are susceptible to wind erosion. We have also identified around 27 million hectares of degraded pastures. To tackle the problem of land degradation, in 2023, the Government decreed to set up RES GIPROZEM, a unified soil research cluster service,” he said.
In his words, from 2023 to 2024, RES GIPROZEM carried out soil survey on an area of 11.5 million hectares, geobotanical inspection on an area of 14.5 million hectares, and soil evaluation on an area of 7 million hectares.
Besides, a digital agricultural map of 205 million hectares of land was created reflecting unbiased information on spatial location, area, and condition of farmlands.
On top of that, legislative amendments were initiated to address the key problems of rational use of land resources. A draft law on soil protection was submitted to the Parliament in 2024.
