Negotiations held in Minsk to prepare for CSTO exercise

MINSK. January 30. KAZINFORM Preliminary staff negotiations were held in Minsk on 30 January with a view to preparing a joint exercise together with the Collective Rapid Response Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The exercise Interaction 2013 is scheduled to take place in Belarus this autumn, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Representatives of the CSTO United Staff led by Lieutenant-General Alexander Studenikin, Chief of the CSTO United Staff, took part in the event as well as representatives of the armed forces of the CSTO member states - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The negotiations were held under the overall supervision of Major-General Igor Lavrinenko, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus.

At the meeting the sides discussed the main approaches to the preparation and holding the exercise, capabilities of the CSTO member states to send military contingents to take part in the exercise as well as matters of the overall support for the exercise.

Holding the exercise Interaction 2013 in Belarus is part of this year's joint plan for operative and combat training of the administration units and forces of the collective security system of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. There are plans to practice the application of military contingents of the CSTO Collective Rapid Response Forces in the Eastern Europe collective security region during the exercise. The holding of planned joint educational events every year is now an established practice. An exercise of the CSTO Collective Rapid Response Forces was held in Russia in 2010, in Tajikistan in 2011, and in Armenia in 2012.
