New gas works in Zhanaozen to produce 900 bln cu m of associated petroleum gas a year
As part of his working trip to Mangistau region Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov got acquainted with the measures taken on the socioeconomic development of Zhanaozen monotown under the President’s tasks outlined in his Address to the Nation, Kazinform News Agency reports.
In particular, he surveyed the progress of modernization of the infrastructure, raising the quality of education, and ensuring employment in the town.
Over 150,000 people live in Zhanaozen. Its population is projected to exceed 200,000 by 2035.
Great attention was paid to the development of housing and utilities infrastructure. The town and adjacent rural settlements are fully provided with water, electricity and gas. The water treatment facility modernization project is of great importance for the town. It is planned to build reservoirs to accumulate 30,000 cubic meters of water.
An investment project on the construction of a hybrid electric power station with a capacity of 247 MW started there to meet the growing needs of KazMunayGas and Italy’s ENI. It provides for the generation of solar and wind power and the construction of a gas-fired electric power station.
The Prime Minister also surveyed the construction of a 1,200-seat school built under the Comfortable School national project and to be commissioned by the yearend. Two more will be constructed next year. In addition, the Palace of Schoolchildren is under construction in the town for the all-round development of children and youth. It is realized by Ozenmunaygas company.
Besides, Bektenov got acquainted with the progress of the construction of a new gas processing plant called not only to meet the extra needs of the locals but also to give an impulse to the development of the sector and production of high-value-added petrochemical products. It will produce 900 billion cubic meters of associated petroleum and natural gas and 5,000 gas condensate a year. The plant's construction began last year. Its two commissioning and start-up complexes will be put onstream in early 2027.
The Premier said the new gas processing plant construction will have a wide multiplicative impact on the region’s economic and social development. He stressed its construction is being strictly monitored.
