In February 2024, he was appointed as the Finance Minister of Kazakhstan.

Earlier, Kazakh Tourism and Sport Minister Yermek Marzhikpayev slammed the Volleyball Federation for the poor performance at international contests, which the Federation attributed to the qualitative and age composition of the team. The country’s main volleyball national team includes athletes over 30 years old, with no younger athletes to replace them. The minister also pointed to the low level of the National Volleyball League, which falls short of global levels.
