New Secretary General of National Olympic Committee appointed
Following a meeting of the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana, Alimzhan Akayev has been unanimously elected the Secretary General of the Organization, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The President of the NOC Gennady Golovkin and Vice-Minister of Tourism and Sports Serik Zharasbayev, as well as the presidents and representatives of 31 national sports federations for Olympic sports attended the meeting.
Gennady Golovkin put forth the candidacy of Alimzhan Akayev, which was ultimately endorsed by unanimous consent.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all the General Assembly’s members for their trust and support of my candidature. I congratulate Alimzhan Akayev on his election. I am confident that his many years of experience and knowledge will help achieve the set goals and objectives,” the President of the NOC said.
Previously, Alimzhan Akayev served as the head of the International Relations Department of the NOC for seven years. He represented the Organization’s interests at international forums and conferences, thereby contributing to the development of international sports relations and strengthening the country’s reputation globally.
Since February 2024, he has served as Advisor to the President of the NOC on international affairs.
It bears to remind that President of the NOC Gennady Golovkin has been appointed as Chair of a new Olympic Commission by World Boxing.
