No date set for the 3rd round of Syria peace talks

Opposition negotiator Ahmad Jakal told reporters Saturday that the final "short" and "tense" session was marked by differences over how to tackle the process of political transition, Reuters reported. "Mr (Lakhdar) Brahimi set no date for a third round but he made it clear he expects there will be one," he was quoted as saying, referring to the international mediator in the talks. A source close to the peace talks told RIA Novosti that no more sessions are planned for the second round that ended with no progress for the rival sides. Brahimi told a press briefing that the results of the second round should be discussed during a three-party meeting with UN chief Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports. Saturday was the sixth day of the second round of the talks, initiated by the United States and Russia, aimed at ending the three-year civil war.
