TOKYO. March 9. KAZINFOR No people were injured in a strong earthquake measured 7.2 points in Japan on Wednesday. Neither buildings nor infrastructure sites were damaged. The tremors did not disrupt the operation of a nuclear power plant in the Miyagi Prefecture, which was the hardest hit of the earthquake, the Japanese emergency services reported. Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

However, the earthquake disrupted the traffic. The Japan Railways (JR) Group had to stop the traffic of the bullet trains Shinkansen.

The Japanese weather forecasting service reported that the earthquake nested ten kilometers under the sea bottom in the Pacific off the north-eastern coast of the major Japanese island of Honshu. The tremors were registered in 23 out of 47 prefectures, including Tokyo.

The residents in the prefectures Miyagi, Fukushima and Iwate were forbidden to approach the oceanic coast over a tsunami threat. The weather forecasting services reported that the waves may reach half a meter, but the experts forecast that the waves cannot make major damages.

The Japanese archipelago is situated at the junction of four tectonic platforms, therefore, up to 20% of all earthquakes measured six points and higher in the world are registered in the country every year. Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com
