Nobel Prize laureate visits Taraz
Nobel Prize laureate and longtime chief advisor on climate change to the UN Secretary-General, Dr. Rae Kwon Chung, paid a visit to the Dulati Taraz Regional University to talk about climate change as well as water and ecological problems of the region, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh Science and Higher Education Ministry.
According to Dr. Rae Kwon Chung, climate change poses a huge threat to the entire humankind as the average global temperature rose 1.5fold in the past 5 years.
The climate change expert warned that global temperature may increase threefold by 2050 threatening the future generations. In order to tackle the problem, it is essential to determine what caused it in the first place.
Dr. Rae Kwon Chung who has been studying climate change for more than three decades believes that CO2 emissions produced industrially are to blame for the problem. For many years scientists have been raising their concerns urging to curb CO2 emissions worldwide. However, not much has been done so far.
The Nobel Prize laureate urged those attending the meeting to support green economy and contribute to environmental protection.
Dr Rae Know Chung is a Professor Emeritus at Incheon National University and chair of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee.
