2006 - Kuwait hosts the 3rd session of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) under the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) which discusses the problem of higher education. The event gathers the representatives of 56 Muslim countries. ISESCO Director General Dr. Abdelaziz al-Tuwaijri backs Kazakhstan’s proposal to add the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University to the list of the best universities of the OIC member states.
2012 – The National Student Council is established in Kazakhstan. The council consists of the leaders of student associations and activists of the leading youth organizations, as well as young scholars.
2014 – Kazakh-Spanish documentary Los olvidados de Karagandá (The Forgotten from Karaganda) about Spanish prisoners of the GULAG (the system of concentration and correctional camps) is screened in Madrid. The event is held following the official visit of Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to Kazakhstan. During that visit, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev handed over to Spanish prime minister archival materials with data on 152 Spaniards detained in the Spassky camp near Karaganda. The film Los olvidados de Karagandá is based on these materials. It tells the story of the fate of 152 Spaniards, 14 of whom died in the camp.
2018 – Kazakhstani Olzhas Orazalyuly wins a gold medal at the World Para Judo Championships in Odivelas, Portugal. 267 judokas from 42 countries compete in the event.
2019 – Kazakhstani track-and-field athlete Olga Rypakova is appointed the member of the Athletes’ Commission of the Asian Athletic Association.
