1997 – Almaty hosts I Congress of Doctors of Kazakhstan.
1998 – A memorial plaque is installed on the wall of the house of famous poet Khamit Yergaliyev (1916-1997).
Khamit Yergaliyev is an author of more than 30 collections on various topics – life of Kazakhs before the October Revolution, heroic labour of the people in rear areas during the war, post-war labour and others.
2012 – Following a secret ballot procedure, which involved the representatives of 161 member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions – Astana is chosen as the EXPO-2017 host city. EXPO-2017 is the first international exhibition held in the Central Asian region and in the CIS.
2014 – First home-produced diesel locomotive is exported to Ashgabat, Tajikistan.
2016 – A resident of Mangistau region discovers a hoard of gold coins dating back to the XII-XIII centuries. The hoard may belong to the dynasty of khorezmshakhs Anusteginid Ala ad-Din Tekesh Muhammad ibn Tekesh. Local archeologist and historian Andrey Astafyev says that coins could have been made in Mangyshlak.
2017 – Boris Nugmanov from Kokshetau who competes in men’s kettlebell lifting becomes the world’s absolute champion in 70-74kg weight division. The championship is held in Seoul, South Korea, and brings together 500 athletes from 34 countries.
2018 – Well-known Kazakhstani scholar Zulkhair Mansurov is awarded the UNESCO medal “For the contribution to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnologies”. The awards ceremony is held in the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
2019 – Kazakh film director Adilzhan Yerzhanov is named the winner of the XIII Asia Pacific Screen Awards for his film “Dark, dark man” in the Best Director nomination. The event is held in Brisbane, Australia. 289 films from Asian-Pacific countries are nominated for Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
2020 – Film “Tomiris” by Akan Satayev receives US Taurus World Stunt Award. The Taurus is an equivalent to an Oscar award for stunt performers.
