NPP construction in Kazakhstan: International consortium participants to be announced in 1H2025
The participants of the Consortium for the Nuclear Power Plant Construction in Kazakhstan will be determined in the first half of 2025, according to Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev, Kazinform News Agency reports.
“I think that the decision will be made in the first half of the year,” said Almasadam Satkaliyev answering journalists’ questions in Almaty.
He added that companies from four countries – China, Russia, France and South Korea – have been selected as potential contractors for the NPP construction. These companies are China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Russia's Rosatom State Corporation, Électricité de France and Korea Hydro Nuclear Power.
During the public hearings in Almaty, Director General of JSC Nuclear Power Plants of Kazakhstan Timur Zhantikin said that two locations – Kurchatov town and Ulken village – were inspected and recognized suitable for the NPP construction.
On December 23, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev who reported on the results of the ministry's work and plans for the development of the country’s fuel and energy complex as well as on implementation of the major oil and gas and energy projects. The President highlighted the importance of accelerating the nuclear power plant construction in Kazakhstan .
