Number of unemployed in Ukraine close to 1 million -- state dept

DONETSK. February 14. KAZINFORM Unemployment in Ukraine stands at 932,000 people at the moment, ICTV channel said Friday quoting statistics of the State Center for Employment.

By the yearend, more than 3 million Ukrainians may lose jobs. If the center's forecast proves correct, this will mean that unemployment will have embraced 9% of the country's economically active population, the ICTV said. At the end of 2007, Ukraine had a population of about 46.9 million people, Kazinform refers to ITAR-TASS.
