Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of European Council discussed bilateral relations

BRUSSELS. October 25. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the European Council Council Herman Van Rompuy discussed the issues on bilateral cooperation. The President of Kazakhstan informed after the meeting with the President of the EU Council.

The Head of State thanked Herman Von Rompuy for hospitability and noted that the sides discussed all the issues of European-Kazakh relations.

'Our relations are of strategic significance and based on mutually beneficial conditions. They are of mutual interest in the sphere of global and regional security, economics and power industry', the President of Kazakhstan noted.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also emphasized that the European Union was the main partner of Kazakhstan. 'Our trade turnover for 2009, the year of crisis, was USD 30 bln and for 8 months of this year it reached USD 25 bln', the Head of State added.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also said that more than 40 percent of foreign investments came from the countries of the EU and made USD 50 bln. Besides, Kazakhstan was the third largest energy supplier to Europe among the countries - not members of the OPEC. 'It is 20 percent of the EU needs and it is going to increase', N. Nazarbayev said.
