Nursultan Nazarbayev, Angela Merkel discuss situation in Ukraine

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, the Akorda's press service reports.

The leaders of the two countries discussed state and prospects for the Kazakh-German bilateral relations as well as expansion of the commercial and economic cooperation in the context of the agreements reached during President Nazarbayev's visit to Germany. Besides, Nursultan Nazarbayev and Angela Merkel exchanged views on the pressing issues of the international agenda, including recent developments in Ukraine. During the telephone conversation the President of Kazakhstan reiterated the importance of finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine through a dialogue between all parties concerned, using mechanisms of international mediation to ensure territorial integrity of the country and not using mutual threats and ultimatums. Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed Kazakhstan was ready to make a constructive contribution to finding a peaceful solution to the situation in Ukraine, if necessary.
