Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative to rename Kazakhstan - politically, historically and linguistically correct decision - Azerbaijani MP Nizami Jafarov

According to the deputy of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, chairman of the parliamentary committee on culture, doctor of philology Nizami Jafarov, the President of Kazakhstan timely and properly raised the issue of renaming the country.
In particular, according to Azerbaijani parliamentarian and philologist, ending ‘stan' means ‘place' but it does not have Turkic roots. ‘The base name of the country is the word ‘Kazakh' and adding ‘El' means state. It is quite reasonable and interesting name in Turkic. In this sense, I agree with the name ‘The Kazak Eli'. It is politically, linguistically and stylistically correct, it should be supported,' said Jafarov.
‘Among the Turkic peoples Nursultan Nazarbayev's ideas are always perceived with interest and supported, because it is impossible to be indifferent to them'.
‘At the same time the leader of Kazakhstan always discusses principle issues with the nation, because without discussion there will not be harmony in the society . In this case, Azerbaijanis believe that President Nazarbayev's high intellectual potential, vast political experience, and his desire to unite the Kazakhstan's society do not allow the country to make significant errors. The evidence of it is successful economic development and national accord in the Republic of Kazakhstan ‘, said the deputy. The deputy also stresses out that Kazakhstan today occupies the leading positions in the Central Asian region and it is an important part of Turkish and Eurasian integration. Its rebranding has now become a necessity to overcome negative stereotypes associated with the names of ‘troubled' and underdeveloped countries which names end in ‘stan'
Moreover, according to the deputy of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan , the word " El" is a historical name, and renaming, in fact , is returning to the beginning of its statehood. Kazakhstan is a locomotive in the region, and its renaming will help other Turkic countries - Tatarstan,Bashkortostan and others. As far as I know, these republics also think of renaming the names of their countries‘, said Jafarov.
