MOSCOW. February 7. KAZINFORM U.S. President Barack Obama's step grandmother, Sarah, suffered bruises and a shock after a car accident in Kenya, HuffingtonPost reported.

Sarah Obama, 91, was riding in a car on Saturday night from town Kisumu to her home town of Kogelo, in western Kenya, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over crashing into a ditch.

A chief operating officer of the Agha Khan hospital in Kisumu, where she was hospitalized, said Sarah coped well with the shock after the accident and doctors have already discharged her.

Sarah Obama is the second wife of Obama's paternal grandfather Barack Hussein Obama Sr. In his memoir "Dreams from My Father," the U.S. president referred to Sarah as "Granny" and described how he met her during his trip to Kenya in 1988 and experienced difficulties communicating with her.

Barack Hussein Obama Sr. was a senior state economist in Kenya and was killed in a traffic accident in 1982, according to RIA Novosti.
