Shavkat Rahmonov (1994) – Kazakhstan’s mixed martial arts fighter competing under the auspices of the UFC in the welterweight division. Former M-1 welterweight champion. He is ranked 6th in the official UFC welterweight rankings. Born in Uzbekistan, Rakhmonov receives citizenship of Kazakhstan and moves with his family to Karaganda in 2014. He lives in Almaty now.
Manshuk Mametova (1922-1943) - machine gunner of the 100th separate rifle brigade of the 3rd attack army of the Kalinin Front, senior sergeant, and first Kazakh woman awarded the title of the Soviet Union Hero. She was born in the village of Zhaskus, Urdinsk district, Uralsk region, Kazakhstan. In 1942 she finished two courses of the Alma-Ata Medical Institute and joined the Red Army voluntarily. The Kalininsk Front troops including Manshuk Mametova fought for the liberation of the city of Nebel, Pskovsk region, on October 15, 1943. Manshuk was heavily wounded, but she had killed 70 enemy combatants before her death.
