Official results confirm Correa's reelection in Ecuador presidential vote

QUITO. May 4. KAZINFORM Incumbent Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa won last Sunday's presidential elections with 51.8 percent of the 93.3 percent of the vote counted, said the National Electoral Council Sunday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

Ecuador's electoral law stipulates that a candidate who obtains an absolute majority or wins 40 percent of the vote with a lead of 10 percentage points over the nearest rival in the first round win the presidential election. Former President Lucio Gutierrez came in second in the official tally with 28.2 percent of the ballots, followed by banana magnate Alvaro Noboa with 11.4 percent, Kazinform cites Xinhua.
