Oldest American dies at 114
MOSCOW. November 18. KAZINFORM Olivia Patricia Thomas, the oldest person born in the United States, has died in New York at the age of 114.
The local Buffalo News daily said Thomas, who was believed to be the world's third oldest person, died at on Monday morning at a nursing home in Williamsville, where she spent the last five years of her life.
She was born June 29, 1895, at a time of economic depression, the year after President Grover Cleveland ordered federal troops to end the Pullman railroad strike.
Friends described Thomas as a dedicated gardener and painter with a "sweet tooth" who loved to travel the world.
The world's oldest living person is believed to be Kama Chinen of Japan, born one month and 19 days before Thomas.
The oldest native-born American is now Neva Morris of Iowa, born on August 3, 1895, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
