Ombudsman of Kazakhstan and UNICEF sign Chilren's Rights Protection MOU

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - In Astana, the Human Rights Ombudsman Askar Shakirov and representative of UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan Jun Kukita have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of protection and promotion of children's rights in Kazakhstan, the press service of the Ombudsman's office in Kazakhstan reports.

«Memorandum for 2014-2015 has been concluded for the implementation of international human rights treaties, in particular, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; the Convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment; the Law «On the Rights of the Child» and Kazakh President's state-of-the-nation address to the people «Kazakhstan's way-2050: common goal, common interests, common future», the statement reads.

According to the press service, in the framework of the document, the sides will continue cooperation in the areas of children's rights, in particular, improvement of the justice system, improvement of vulnerable groups of children and young people's access to human rights mechanisms, independent monitoring of childcare facilities as well as information campaigns for the prevention of violence against children.

«As part of the signing ceremony the parties summed up the fruitful partnership developed between the Commissioner for Human Rights and UNICEF. Thus, on a systematic basis with the involvement of international experts there has been conducted research work on violence against children in boarding and secondary schools, worked out guides for monitoring of children's institutions, conducted trainings and seminars», the statement says.
