Ombudsman of Kazakhstan meets with EU ambassador in Astana

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan (the Ombudsman) Askar Shakirov has met with the Ambassador of the European Union in Astana Aurelia Bouchez and the regional director of Penal Reform International (PRI) in Central Asia Saule Mektepbayeva, the press office of the human rights organization reports.

«The meeting was held to discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation in the implementation of «Kazakhstan-2050» Strategy in particular, the new principles of social policy, protection of social rights, rights of vulnerable groups», the statement reads.

The sides elaborated on improving human rights protection system, further institutional development of the Ombudsman in Kazakhstan as well as the practical implementation of the newly created National Preventive Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture.

In turn, A. Bouchez noted the importance of preventive advocacy and expressed interest in contributing to the enhancement of legal instruments for human rights protection in Kazakhstan.

The parties agreed to develop partnership in the field of human rights and joint projects development.
