Over 200 pedestrians fined by police in one day in Astana
With the purpose of reducing the number of road accidents, the "Pedestrian" campaign was held in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the press service of the city's police department.
As part of campaign, a number of violations were recorded, including crossing unmarked sections of the road, passing at a red traffic light, and blocking the road.
Particular attention was paid to sections of road deemed dangerous, pedestrians under the age of 18, and scooter and motorcycle drivers. Small electric cars, which recently pose a serious threat to safety on the roads, were not ignored as well.
Police officers identify from 200 to 300 offenses committed by pedestrians on a daily basis. Since the beginning of the year, around 17,000 pedestrians have been held accountable under Article 615 of Administrative Offences. This article also applies to drivers of bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters.
