Over 2,500 measles cases registered in Zhambyl region

2,515 measles cases were confirmed in Zhambyl region as of November 30 with the most infected children under 14 years old, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Measles cases were recorded in the city of Taraz as well as in Merke, Baizak, and Shu districts, the sanitary and epidemiological control department said in a statement.

The additional mass measles immunization began in the region amid surging cases. As of today, some 9,000 people have been administered the measles vaccine. Babies aged 6 - 11 months, and children aged 2, 3, and 4 years old who have not previously been vaccinated against measles should receive the first dose.  281 vaccination centres, and 30 mobile vaccination brigades are operating across the region. 

In 2019 the region confirmed over 500 measles cases across the region.
