Over 300 projects worth more than $11bln successfully implemented in Kazakhstan with EBRD’s participation

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso met today in Astana to discuss the prospects for the EBRD’s involvement in major infrastructure projects, including under the 2029 National Infrastructure Plan, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Kazakh Government’s press service. 

It was noted that more than 300 projects worth over $11 billion have been successfully implemented in Kazakhstan with the participation of the EBRD, with BAKAD (Big Almaty Ring Road) being one of the largest projects.

The parties also discussed the interaction in support of small and medium businesses and implementation of public-private partnership projects. One of such PPP projects financed by the EBRD is the construction of a 630-bed multifunctional hospital in Kokshetau.

The government is currently compiling a pool of large-scale turnkey PPP projects with the involvement of international financial institutions. The sides also discussed the issues of decarbonization of economy and joint implementation of the projects in transport and logistics sector, including those aimed at developing the Middle Corridor.

Another meeting with the representatives of the world's leading energy corporations, namely Shell Plc, ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies Exploration& Production, and Eni S.p.A, focused on the relevant issues of cooperation in oil and gas industry.

The companies are the members of the NCOC consortium involved in the development of Kashagan, Kazakhstan’s largest offshore oil and gas project. Following the discussion, the participants emphasized the importance of timely implementation of further stages of field development (2A and 2B).
