Over 5,000 trapped in snow rescued in Zhambyl region
2,413 people, including 90 kids, stuck in snow on the roads, were rescued in Zhambyl region as of 06:00 a.m. Of which 600 returned home, 1,813 were housed in the nearby villages leaving their cars behind. Three people were taken to the Kordai Regional Central Hospital in stable condition, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Over 5,000 people have been rescued in the past two days.
171 people and 76 units of equipment are deployed in snow cleanup and rescue operations.
23 emergency crews and 27 units of specialized equipment are mobilized to restore power supplies in the region.
11 passenger trains are trapped in the snow at the Shu-Otrar railways section.

Roads of republican significance are closed down, and hundreds of people stuck in snow are being evacuated in Zhambyl region.
The authorities were forced to declare a state of emergency in the region due to worsening of weather conditions, including a drop in air temperature, ground blizzards and low visibility, ice-slick, heavy snowfalls, and freezing temperatures. The roads en route Taraz-Almaty of the Western Europe-Western China corridor, and local roads were shut down.
