Over 6mln people participated in Taza Qazaqstan environmental campaign in 2024
1.1 million tons of waste were collected and 1.6 million trees were planted across the country under the Taza Qazaqstan ecological campaign, Kazinform News Agency reports.
“Initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Taza Qazaqstan campaign pursues a goal to improve the environmental situation in the country through cleanup events, garbage collection, greening the territories, and education,” Minister of Ecology Yerlan Nyssanbayev said at the Government’s weekly meeting.
According to him, the number of annual ecological campaigns increased from 62 to 183.
“In 2019-2023, the total number of people engaged in environmental campaigns was 2.4 million, with 900,000 tons of garbage collected and 2.5 trees and bushes planted. In 2024, the campaigns involved a total of 6.2 people, who gathered some 1.1 million tons of garbage and planted 1.6 million trees,” he emphasized.
The campaign launched in April 2024 on the President’s initiative, spread across all the regions of the country and united more than 5.83 million people.
Earlier, addressing the II Republican Forum of Deputies of Maslikhats, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that cleanliness must first become a habit, and then a feature of the people of Kazakhstan. He called on everyone to join forces to support the Taza Qazaqstan campaign. "None of the settlements shall stand aside," he stressed.
