Parker could miss start of season

LONDON. July 24. KAZINFORM Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker could miss the start of the season if he needs surgery on an Achilles injury, Kazinform has learned from BBC.

Parker is being assessed by club medical staff while the first team are on tour in the United States.

The 31-year-old missed several Spurs games towards the end of last season because of the problem, but did start every England match at Euro 2012.

"There might be a small tear on his Achilles," said Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.

"We are evaluating the situation regarding a possible operation that can take four to six weeks normally to heal."

Parker's absence could see him sidelined until September, forcing him to miss Spurs' opening Premier League game at Newcastle on 18 August.

He would also be kept out of England's friendly against Italy on 15 August.

Depending on the operation date and his recovery, Parker could miss England's first two World Cup qualifiers, against Moldova on 7 September and Ukraine on 11 September.
