Parliament of Kazakhstan ratified UN Convention on rights of people with disabilities

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The Law "On ratification of the Convention on the rights of the people with disabilities was ratified at the plenary session of the Senate of Kazakhstan.

"The Convention on the rights of the people with disabilities was approved by the General Assembly of the UN in 2006. Presently, the convention has been ratified by 151 countries including the CIS member states. The convention signed by Kazakhstan on December 11, 2008. Besides, we signed the optional protocol of the convention," Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Social Protection of Kazakhstan Tamara Duissenova said presenting the draft law. According to the minister, the convention is aimed at protection and encouragement of the implementation of the rights of the people with disabilities, liquidation of discrimination against people with disabilities, ensuring of participation of these layers of population in the life of the society. Any government has to use all of its resources to take the measures on implementation of this convention. T. Duissenova also emphasized that Kazakhstan had all the necessary tools to implement the convention.
