Parliament passes 28 laws since Sep 2024 – Senate Speaker Ashimbayev

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received today Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Maulen Ashimbayev, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Akorda press service.

The President was informed about the Senate’s current activity and plans for the upcoming period.

According to Ashimbayev, since the beginning of the III session, the Parliament of Kazakhstan has passed 28 laws, five of which were initiated by deputies. Several laws were adopted in line with the President’s instructions related to housing policy, education and children’s rights protection, education savings system, exchange trading and entrepreneurship, court system and countering illegal trafficking in drugs.

Currently, the Parliament is considering the draft laws regulating protection of workers’ labor rights, creative industries, forestry and specially protected natural areas.

Since the year beginning, the Senate has organized as many as 50 events, and submitted 67 deputy inquiries to the Government and has held more than 40 international meetings.

In 2025, the Senate will consider budget, construction, water and tax codes, as well as the laws “On special status of Turkistan city” and “On consumers’ rights protection”. Parliamentary hearings devoted to the Year of Working Professions are set to be held as well. 

The President was briefed about the work of the Parliamentary commission for monitoring the implementation of national ideas and objectives in the field of Kazakhstan’s sustainable development. The commission was set up at the President’s instruction.

As Maulen Ashimbayev noted, one of the priorities of the Senate’s activity is to fulfill the President’s tasks to further develop the regions.

The Senate Speaker also informed Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on preparation for the VIII Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions slated for September 2025.

On December 23, the Head of State received Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev, who reported  on the results of the ministry's work and plans for the development of the country’s fuel and energy complex as well as on implementation of the major oil and gas and energy projects.
