Parliament to discuss terms of wind power plant construction in Zhetysu region

The draft law ratifying the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on implementation of a wind power plant construction project has been submitted for the consideration of the Parliament's lower chamber, Kazinform News Agency reports.

"The goal of the agreement is to implement a package of measures to counter global warming with the use of RES, green technologies and innovations in the territory of Kazakhstan, as well as to boost cooperation between the countries. The agreement provides for construction of a 1GW wind power plant in Zhetysu region," majilisman Yedil Zhanbyrshin said presenting the document. 

As many as 250 permanent and 3,000 temporary jobs will be created due to the implementation of the project.
"The amount of investments is projected to reach approximately 1,8 billion U.S. dollars. The Majilis Committee on Ecology and Nature Use is preparing a conclusion on the bill," Yedil Zhanbyrshin added.

It should be reminded that Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia agreed to build a large wind power plant  with a capacity of 1GW in the area of the Dzungarian Gate. Saudi Arabia is expected to invest 883 billion tenge in the project.
