Pavlodar region reports 37 COVID-19 cases since year beginning

Health authorities of Pavlodar region express concern over the rising number of upper respiratory tract infection, measles, flu, pertussis, and COVID-19 cases. The region has reported 37 COVID-19 cases since the year beginning, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to the local sanitary-epidemiological control department, 34 COVID-19 cases were registered in January, and three more cases were detected in February.

The region observes twofold increase in flu (62) compared to the same period in 2023. Most of those infected are children. The majority of flu cases were reported in Ekibastuz and Pavlodar.

Since the beginning of the epidemiological season, the region has confirmed 361 upper respiratory tract infection cases, mostly among the children aged under 14, and 24 confirmed pertussis cases, against 30 in the previous year.

The region is also alarmed at rising number of measles cases. For instance, in 2023 the region recorded 604 measles cases, while in January 2024, this indicator has reached 300, with more than 100 cases detected in February.

As reported, on February 8, chief sanitary doctor of Kazakhstan Aizhan Yesmagambetova decreed to make face masks mandatory in public places to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, measles, flu and other air-communicable infectious diseases.
