"Kazakhstan enjoys market economy. The Soviet times are way behind. To earn money you need to work hard. If the workers ask for raise in wages, the problem should be looked into carefully," President Nazarbayev said at the meeting with the people of Karaganda region.

He reminded how hard it was back in 1990s. "Everybody has forgotten we could not pay wages and even pensions. Kazakhstan started from ground zero. Even the shops were empty," the Head of State added.

At the same time the President noted that Kazakhstan has survived the current economic crisis.

"The world is hit by crisis. You know what's going on in Europe: many countries decrease pensions, salaries. A lot of people are unemployed. Kazakhstan, despite the global economic crisis, stays afloat. It speaks in favor of Kazakhstan's power and potential," N. Nazarayev noted.
