PM: 2009 results are better than our forecasts

ASTANA.  December 29. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ The results of 2009 turned out to be better than our forecasts, Prime Minister Karim Massimov has said at a briefing today.

"It is a pleasure for me to announce that Kazakhstan's GDP growth was positive in 2009 -  at 0.5%-1%. Inflation was at 6.3% and unemployment rate - at 6.3%-6.5%", Massimov said.

The Head of the Government said the country faced economic slowdown in the fourth quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009. "The problems we set found their solution. 6.2 mln sq m of housing were put into service. All problematic projects connected with construction and housing investors will be solved soon. Many projects have been completed in 2009 and will be fully finished by 2010 end", the PM stressed.
