Polish-Ukrainian border clearance exercise held ahead of Euro 2012

RSAW. November 25. KAZINFORM Polish and Ukrainian customs and border guard officers exercised joint clearance at the border crossing in Dorohusk on Thursday, ahead of the Euro 2012 football championship to be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, local media reported; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

At present travellers are cleared separately by Polish and Ukrainian officers on both sides of the border. During Euro 2012 the clearance will be held jointly on the Polish side of the border.

The joint clearance will be held on border crossing points in Dorohusk, Hrebenne, Medyka and Korczowa.

"We have been working on preparing the Euro 2012 together with Ukraine's border guards," Lieutenant Colonel Piotr Patla from Poland's Border Guard Headquarters was quoted as saying by the PAP news agency.

Car traffic is expected to increase by over 10 percent during the Euro 2012. At present 5,000 cars and several dozen coaches are cleared in Dorohusk. Joint clearance is expected to speed up the procedure.

The 16-nation Euro 2012 soccer championships, slated for June 8-July 1, 2012, will take place in four Polish cities of Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan as well as four Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Lvov, Donetsk and Kharkov.
