Power plant in Ekibastuz reports collapse
A breakdown has been reported at 01:10 am local time at the power plant on December 10 in Ekibastuz. The collapse in the sluice discharge piping was discovered at 05:30 am local time, Kazinform News Agency cites Ekibastuzteploenergo LLP’s official Instagram account.
The company said in a statement via its Instagram account that an ash-pump house of the second unit of water heating boilers was submerged in water. Two boiler units on hot reserve have been activated.
Ekibastuzteploenergo personnel and the staff of the Ekibastuz department of emergencies are involved in the water pumping efforts.
Seven boilers are currently operating at the power plant. Three of which are temporarily running on oil fuel.
The work is underway to launch the ash-pump house and restore the operation of the power plant in routine mode.
Analogous collapse at the Ekibastuz power plant in late November last year left the city without central heating for several days.
