President Nazarbayev chairs session on fatal Shymkent plane crash

ASTANA. December 26. KAZINFORM Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has chaired a today's session with the heads of government bodies and law-enforcement agencies on the occasion of a fatal crash of the military plane near Shymkent, Kazinform refers to the presidential press service.

Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov, Assistant to President - Secretary of the Security Council Marat Tazhin, Prosecutor General Askhat Daulbayev, Defense Minister Adilbek Dzhaksybekov, Internal Affairs Minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov, and First Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee Vladimir Zhumakanov were in attendance.

The Kazakh President announced the military plane with frontier service leadership onboard crashed at 18:55 PM local time on December 25.

"Seven crew members and 20 servicemen were killed. A special commission has been formed to investigate the matter. This is a great tragedy and I express my deepest condolences to families of the victims," President Nazarbayev said.

He especially emphasized it was crucial to examine all circumstances of the incident in details. In his words, it is important to rule out even the possibility of such fatal mishaps in future.

"We have been put to severe test. The whole nation mourns over the victims. I have declared the 27th of December the day of national mourning. Unfortunately, such things happen across the world. And we should do our best to prevent such fatalities,' Nursultan Nazarbayev noted.
