President Nazarbayev revived Minsk negotiations on Ukraine - Idrissov
"In fact, the agreements reached in Minsk became possible thanks to personal initiative of the Head of State. As you know, the Trilateral Contact Group, including representatives of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the European Union (EU) and Ukraine held the meeting in Minsk in August 2014. As a result of the August meeting, the Minsk agreements were signed on September 5 and 19. However, these agreements calling for ceasefire were not observed. On the contrary, we witnessed the increase of violence in December 2014 - January 2015 in defiance of the Minsk agreement. That is why the Head of State made efforts to promote peace in late December 2014. As you know, Nursultan Nazarbayev traveled to Minsk, right after that he visited Moscow. Then, President of France Francois Hollande paid a visit to Astana where the two leaders negotiated the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Afterwards, President Hollande made a short unplanned stop in Moscow," Minister Idrissov said at the Government's hour at Majilis on Monday. Erland Idrissov reminded that President Nazarbayev had negotiations with the Chancellor of Germany, the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, having stressed the important role that Kazakhstan played in the settlement of the situation in Ukraine. The Head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry also noted that the situation in Ukraine is still complicated, nonetheless, there is hope it will be settled regardless of fundamental contradictions between the countries involved in the conflict.
