President Nazarbayev to attend NATO Summit
"At invitation of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will participate in the NATO Summit in Lisbon on November 19-20", I.Omarov said.
According to him, it is planned that its participants will define direction of further NATO efforts on ensuring the Euro-Atlantic security for the upcoming decade. Leaders of the NATO member states will consider the situation in Afghanistan, agree measures on further strengthening and modernization of the NATO as well as adopt new strategic concept.
The cooperation between Kazakhstan and the NATO began from our country's joining the North Atlantic Cooperation Council in 1992, which was reorganized to the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) in 1997.
Membership in the EAPC allows Kazakhstan to realize a fruitful dialogue with the NATO member states on relevant issues of international security.
"Expansion of a constructive dialogue with the NATO is an important direction of Kazakhstan's foreign policy. Within the framework of the strategy on strengthening security in the Central Asian region we support a high level and intensity of a political dialogue. Kazakhstan aims at further development of Euro-Atlantic partnership and Partnership for Peace program as basis for the political dialogue and practical cooperation", I.Omarov noted.
