President of Kazakhstan called to strengthen UN mechanisms

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev thinks that it is necessary that the UN had enough authority to make some countries observe anti-nuclear agreements, the President said at the meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Kazakhstan today.

"Peace and global stability rest on observance of the norms of the international law. Therefore, the mechanisms of the UN have to be strengthened in order to control and take effective measures in case of violations of the norms adopted by the international society. There is an agreement on nonproliferation of nuclear weapons signed by many countries. However, some countries decided to develop and possess nuclear weapons despite the agreement. Nobody can do anything about it, so the UN should have enough mechanisms to make some countries observe the norms adopted in the world," N. Nazarbayev said.

According to him, such decisions in the year of the 70 th anniversary of the UN is a requirement of the time.
