President Tokayev addresses CSTO Collective Security Council meeting in narrow format
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the narrow meeting of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization held in Minsk, Belarus, Kazinform Agency cites Akorda.
Attending the meeting were President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, Sadyr Zhaparov of Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Putin of Russia, Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, as well as CSTO General-Secretary Imangali Tassmagambetov.
The event discussed the current aspects of ensuring collective security of the member states, summed up the results of the realization of the priority areas of the CSTO activity in the outgoing year, as well as defined plans for the upcoming period. In addition, the leaders of the countries exchanged views on the issues of global agenda.
In his speech, Tokayev noted that today’s meeting was held amid the very difficult specific conditions of rapidly growing degradation of the international situations. The situation is becoming tense in the Eurasian continent as well as around the perimeter of the CSTO’s responsibility area. According to him, the development of the events in the Middle East is particularly alarming.
As a result of the conflict, peaceful population is suffering, many innocent people, including children, die. It’s not acceptable. Kazakhstan provided the humanitarian assistance to the Gaza residents amounting one million dollars, sending it to UNRWA, which suffered unprecedented losses among its personnel, but continues its work bravely. The Middle East conflict provoked the spiral of a virtually global information and ideological confrontation. The events around the Gaza Strip divided the international community at least in two camps. It needs to be stopped to prevent war spreading to other countries and continents, said the Kazakh President.
The Kazakh Head of State hailed the recent agreements on temporary ceasefire.
We were insisting from start that the sides in conflict take every effort to declare a humanitarian pause so as to develop long-term settlement measures. Moreover, it’s important to finally ensure the rights of Palestinians to create a full-fledged state based on the formula ‘Two states for two nations’. In such a difficult situation, it is necessary to strictly follow the UN Security Council resolution and the regulations of international law, said Tokayev.
Kazakh President Tokayev also pointed to the uneasy situation in Afghanistan and called on the international community to continue providing support to the Afghan people.
We believe it necessary to continue rendering humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and assist in integrating this long-suffering country in the regional economy. This year, Kazakhstan has sent food, essential goods, and pharmaceuticals to Afghanistan, said the Kazakh Head of State.
Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan shares the concern of the CSTO partners regarding traditional threats, including drug and weapon trafficking, transborder crime and illegal migration. Kazakhstan is ready to face these challenges together with the Organization’s member states.
The Kazakh President said that the country aims at steady and balanced development of the Organization, strengthening collective security taking into account the national interests of all of its members.
