President Tokayev briefed on Kazakhstan Khalkyna Fund's activities

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Chairman of the Kazakhstan Khalkyna Fund Bolat Zhamishev, Akorda reports.

President Tokayev was briefed about the Fund’s activities and tasks for the upcoming period.

According to Zhamishev, the Kazakhstan Khalkyna Fund has financed 103 charity projects worth 230 billion tenge, of which 58 have been completed, in three years. The Fund, which operates on the principles of transparency, accountability and sustainability, underwent an external audit conducted by Ernst&Young last year.

As the Head of State was informed, the Fund pays special attention to the sphere of healthcare, in particular, ensuring that patients with serious and orphan diseases receive drugs they need. To this end, the Fund provided 57.7 billion tenge covering 461 people, including 342 children. Over 1,200 oncological patients received target drugs wroth 14.5 billion tenge. Five oncological centers and 22 children’s neurosurgical services were provided with modern equipment. 10 out of the 13 early intervention centers to prevent disabilities in children have been opened.

Under the Fund’s social support activity, seven children’s autism centers as well as six rehabilitation centers were opened in the regions. Work is ongoing to open 20 more centers. 150 people received innovative prostheses.

In order to boost the potential of support schools, 135 rural schools have been modernized. Over 3,000 students have been given the Fund’s educational grants.

As part of the Fund’s operation, 100 children’s sports halls have received equipment in rural areas.

As Zhamishev said, the Fund provided assistance to those affected by the spring floods, financing construction of 627 houses in five regions.

Under the social initiative ‘Small towns – big opportunities,’ it’s expected to develop a program to improve the infrastructure of sing-industry towns with support from city-forming enterprises and businesses.

President Tokayev commended the work of the Fund and highlighted the importance of charity to enhance social stability and promote the civil society in Kazakhstan.
