President Tokayev meets EITI Chair of the Board Helen Clark
Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has met today Chair of the Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Helen Clark, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Akorda press service.
Since its accession to the organization in 2007, Kazakhstan has demonstrated commitment to the compliance with the EITI standards, said the Kazakh President at the meeting.
The subsoil users’ obligation to comply with the organization’s terms and provide reports on taxes and other payments to the country’s budget is enshrined at the statutory level.
The President informed the EITI Chair of the Board on the regulatory measures taken in the field of geological exploration and extraction. In particular, a comprehensive plan of the sector’s development, a unified platform for subsoil use including an interactive map and more than 50,000 geological reports was launched. Business procedures of obtaining licenses for exploration and extraction works were also simplified.
In turn, Helen Clark told Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about the strategic plans and key priorities of the organization for the upcoming period. She also praised Kazakhstan’s efforts on improvement of legislation in subsoil use in line with the EITI requirements.
Earlier, it was reported that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as part of his participation in the 22nd edition of the Doha Forum.
