President Tokayev meets WHO Director-General, Regional Director for Europe

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Primary Healthcare held in the Kazakh capital Astana, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the Akorda press service.

Greeting the guests, the Kazakh Head of State pointed out that Kazakhstan maintains productive cooperation with the WHO – one of the key institutions, at the international level.

Our country will always contribute to your successful work. I’m well-aware that it is quite difficult to head the WHO these days. Thisisarealchallenge. In the world with different views of countries and delegates, you manage to find workable solutions and a compromise, said Tokayev.

The leader of Kazakhstan stressed that his country actively enhances the healthcare system to ensure a post-pandemic recovery and achieve the key goals to protect public health.

The Kazakh President confirmed that his country stands ready to present all-round support for WHO-led initiatives.

According to him, the country is committed to the achievement of the UN’s 2030 SDGs, including universal health coverage, reducing the global maternal and neonatal mortality rate and ending the TB epidemic.

On his part, the Director-General of the WHO noted that the adoption of the Alma-Ata and Astana declarations is of high importance for the Organization and him personally, as he dedicated himself to the promotion of primary health care while taking the post of the health minister.

The meeting also focused on the issues of cooperation with the WHO within the SCO and realization of the roadmap promoting the health and well-being in the CA for 2022/25.

In conclusion, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Hans Kluge for taking part in the holding of the Global Conference.
