President Tokayev on cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia in renewable energy field

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the Intergovernmental agreement to ensure parallel operation of power systems of Kazakhstan and Russia was signed last year, which aims at reinforcing the foundation of partnership between the sides in the energy sector, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

Practical cooperation was established to construct thermal power stations in cities of Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk. Our partnership in the field of renewable energy sources develops quite actively as well. With the participation of Russian partners, projects with a total capacity of 370MW have already been realized in Kazakhstan. Under the agreements reached, an additional one gigawatt of clean energy is set to be generated in the near future, said the Head of State, during the plenary meeting of the 20th Interregional Cooperation Forum between Kazakhstan and Russia in Astana. 

According to him, this year marks five years since the realization of the Program of joint action in industrial cooperation, under which 93 joint projects with a total volume of investments worth almost 18.5 billion US dollars have been carried out, creating over 22,000 jobs.

This year, a tire production plant with a capacity of 3.5 million tires per year was launched in Saran town with the participation of Tatneft. Localization of machinery production has deepened in cooperation with KAMAZ company. This October, the large-scale project for production of iron casting with a capacity of up to 40,000 tons per year was launched in Kostanay. A plant for production of drive axle components is slated for opening next year. Currently, 49 more projects with total investments of over 29.5 billion US dollars and creation of around 20,000 jobs are underway. So, EvroChem and UralChem companies are implementing large-scale projects for production of mineral fertilizers in Zhambyl region, concluded Tokayev.
