President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted a significant progress in the promotion of coordinated approaches at the international arena and adoption of important political documents, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Among them are the statements on international information security, cooperation in space exploration, the situation in the Middle East and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
"Throughout the year, the issues of combat training of forces and means of the collective security system have been in the spotlight. Today we will sign two protocols to international agreements — on the status of the CSTO forces and means and on the transportation of military contingents," the Kazakh President said.
He told the participants about the work ongoing to improve the skills and readiness of the CSTO peacekeeping contingents .
"In September-October, Kazakhstan held the Indestructible Brotherhood-2024 command and staff exercises and Rock-2024 special CSTO exercises together with the CSTO peacekeeping forces. Joint actions were exercised when introducing complex emergency rescue operations at high-risk facilities. During the year, we paid special attention to countering current challenges and threats. Various stages of special operations called Naemnik (Mercenary), Kanal (Channel), Nelegal (Illegal) and Proxy were held simultaneously in the territory of Kazakhstan and some other CSTO countries. The activities are aimed at preventing threats associated with international terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration and challenges in the information environment," said the Head of State.
On the initiative of Kazakhstan, the consultations on countering the illegal trafficking in weapons, ammunition, and organized transnational crimes were held for the first time. The issue of creating a sectoral working group within the CSTO is being discussed.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev informed about completion of the work over the CSTO's target interstate program on strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border, under the coordination of Kazakhstan's chairmanship. According to him, the document has been developed since 2013.
"Today we will sign this important decision aimed at strengthening the southern borders of the Organization. In general, the priorities of Kazakhstan's presidency in the CSTO are implemented systematically and gradually. With the support from our partners, friends, we will continue working on their further promotion within the CSTO. Taking this opportunity I would like to thank the Secretary General, Permanent Council and working structures of the CSTO for the huge and fruitful work done. I am sure that through joint efforts we will be able to achieve the high goals set," the Kazakh President said.
