Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia officially inaugurate branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Omsk

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin joined the ceremony of unveiling the branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the Dostoevsky Omsk State University in Russia via videoconferencing, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

During the ceremony, Kazakh Science and Higher Education Minister Sayassat Nurbek and Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Science of Russia Konstantin Mogilevskiy reported on the cooperation in the area of science and higher education between the two countries.

The heads of state gave a start to the opening of the branch afterwards. Attending the event were also rector of the Kazakh National University Zhansseit Tuimebayev and rector of the Omsk State University Sergey Zamyatin.

The first-ever branch of the Kazakhstani university in Russia is set to admit students starting from September next year, with the Kazakhstani and Russian governments allocating 200 grants.

The branch is offer training in bachelor’s and master’s programs in International Law, Kazakh Philology and Customs Affairs specialties. Introduction of double-diploma educational programs is to be considered in the near future.

Students are expected to be taught by teaching staff of the Kazakh National University and Omsk State University in Kazakh, Russian and English languages. It’s also expected to attack scholars from abroad.

10 teaching rooms have already been prepared and equipped, including a Customs Affairs room named after Chokan Valikhanov, a Kazakh language room named after Abai and an International Law room named after Nazira Tolekulova, five rooms for the management and teaching staff, seven lecture rooms as well as co-working centers
