Problem in Afghanistan can't be solved only by military means - N. Nazarbayev

LISBON. November 20. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Today it is obvious that it is impossible to solve the problem in Afghanistan only by military means. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has said at the NATO Summit in Lisbon today.

The Head of the State remembered that during the soviet campaign in Afghanistan Kazakhstan lost about a thousand of soldiers. "So we share and understand the problems of the long-suffering Afghan people and the coalition member states", N. Nazarbayev said.

According to the Kazakh leader, to deal more effectively with current threats in Afghanistan it is necessary to determine their root causes and sources. They are, according to Mr. Nazarbayev, the unresolved situation in the Middle East, as well as feeding of violence and confrontation in Afghanistan by external forces.

"In this regard, without a comprehensive solution to these problems it will be difficult to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan even after 2014 (note: the year of removing of Security Assistance Force troops from Afghanistan)", the President emphasized.
